iPhone 5 vs. iPod touch 5 camera test
iMore has made a parallel between the camera capabilities of the two devices.
The iPhone 5 comes with an 8-megapixel camera and the iPod touch 5 features a 5-megapixel camera.
The site writes that the full-resolution dimensions of the photos made with the iPod touch 5 are smaller than those of the iPhone 5.
As for print sizes, for printing at 200 ppi, photos made with the iPod touch can print up to 9″x12,” while photos from the iPhone 5 can print up to 12″x16″.
If you print at 300 ppi, iPod touch photos can print up to 6″x8″ images and iPhone 5 photos print up to 8″x10″.
In terms of general photography, the site notes that the iPhone 5 photos “are more vibrant, have more contrast, and are a little warmer,” while the iPod touch 5 photos seem “a little flat” when compared to those made with the iPhone 5.

The two cameras’ macro photography capabilities appear to be similar, especially regarding their ability to focus.
A parallel between photos taken in low-light reveals that the iPhone 5 is better than the iPod touch 5.
iPod touch 5 vs. iPhone 5
Both devices feature the same front-facing 1.2-megapixel FaceTime HD camera, but the comparison showed that the iPod touch 5 photos have a warmer tone than the iPhone 5.
Panoramic photography is also similar on the iPod touch 5 and iPhone 5 cameras, but the iPhone 5 offers more contrast and a slightly warmer tone.

New iPhone 5 & iPad Mini Release Dates & Debuts in September
New leaks suggest that September will be a big month for Apple new releases and announcements.
TechCrunch reported that Verizon has informed employees that they will not be able to take vacation on Friday, September 21 until Friday, September 30. This information is interpreted to mean that the dates are for the sale of the new iPhone 5.
It is also rumored that Apple will make its latest iPhone announcement on September 12 with a “trusted” source stating the release date will be Friday September 21. Apple and Verizon have waited until Friday for its iPhone launches.
AT&T employees are not taking vacations during the last two weeks of September until the middle of October.
MacRumors reported that Apple is informing its reseller partners to “set aside additional table space for iPad displays over the next few weeks by September 12, when Apple will reported unveil the iPad Mini.
New leaks showed a Franken-iPhone pieced together with parts to create a mock iPhone 5 by iResQ which some call a Franken-iPhone. There is photo of the headphone jack/docking port assembly screwed into the back casing of the next iPhone:
The new iPhone pieces have a smaller charging plug and earphone jack on the bottom. The company is already stocking repair parts for the unannounced devices.
The dock connector and headphone assemblies for the iPad Mini and new iPhone are very similar suggesting the iPad Mini could be more like an iPhone Maxi than an iPad.
The most prominent new feature believed is a 4″ touchscreen.
The iPhone is so popular that Yahoo’s new CEO Marisss Mayer wants to give every Yahoo employee an iPhone for consistency.

iPad Mini Small Tablet Takeover Joins iPhone 5, iPad Triple Release
Apple competitors' worst nightmare may become a reality as rumors are swirling about a triple threat release of the iPhone 5, iPad mini, and iPad next generation tablet.
Original talks involved launching the iPhone 5 side by side with the iPad Mini, but recent reports say indicate that Apple's current developments on the next-gen iPad may be ready by October.
According to Digitimes and Chinese website Apple Daily, Apple is looking to extinguish any issues that is seen on the current iPad model. Major factors involve overheating and battery life as the current iPad's Retina display has been draining power due to the high number of backlights. Supporting a 2048 x 1536 resolution, the current iPad doubles the number of pixels when compared to the iPad 2.
When Apple released the current iPad, they scrapped plans to integrate Sharp's new IGZO, indium gallium zinc oxide, display which would have improved power consumption, heating, physical size and weight. The technology was not ready at the time but Apple will be looking to integrate the new technology in its next-gen model. The IGZO would slim down the current battery, which is 70% larger in order to support the high resolution display, and can slim down the body casing.
The duo iPad and iPad mini release could dominate the tablet's high and low end market. Its success may also risk the two devices competing with one another in the long run rather than the likes of Samsung, Google, and Amazon. It may also hint at Apple's different approach to strategy compared to past device releases.
Apple's luxury driven image makes the company's dive into the lower end market a new venture. Perhaps the company is confident that delivering high quality for a lower premium can attract potential customers into the Apple ecosystem.
The market, though crowded, could still be scooped up if Apple decides to enter the game. An absence of an iPad mini has allowed Amazon, Google, and Samsung supply customers with 7 inch smaller tablets at lower costs. Competitors tapped into the market for more portable devices and now Apple is eyeing for a piece of the action.
Though Apple's lineup of products have been known to revolutionize and trailblaze, recent speculations contrast to the company's ideals. The new iPhone 5 is rumored to be without NFC, Near Field Communication, technology on initial release. Based on a report from Wall Street Journal, the iPhone 5 will hold off on NFC until Apple sees that consumers are comfortable in accepting the new technology.
Competitors are "all fighting over their piece of the pie, and we aren't doing that," said Phil Schiller, Apple Senior VP of Worldwide Marketing.
Despite leaving out NFC, the Apple iPhone 5 is expected to come this fall packed equipped with a larger 4 inch screen Retina display and uniquely slim designed case with improved battery life.
Recent reports from Digitimes stated that the next-gen smartphone will be equipped with the Exynos 4 quad-core processor. According to AppleInsider, the A5X processor was an updated GPU that upgraded to quad-core. The upgrade allowed the new iPad to uphold its Retina display high resolution technology.
Other features include 4G LTE Connectivity, 8 megapixel rear camera, integrated iOS 6, enhanced Siri, smaller sized dock connector, and liquid metal casing. Could we see Apple pull out a triple release? Consumers may be thrilled, but not rivals.

Apple sells 300,000 iPads on first day
Apple Inc said it had sold more than 300,000 iPads on the tablet computer's first day in stores, surpassing some forecasts, but leaving questions about whether the product can be its next big hit.
Shares of Apple were nearly unchanged in early trading after the stock last week repeatedly hit record highs in anticipation of the iPad's launch on Saturday.
The company said first-day sales included deliveries of preordered iPads to customers, deliveries to channel partners and sales at Apple Retail Stores.
A number of U.S. stores were closed for the Easter holiday on Sunday, but some did remain open, which suggests that total weekend figures will be higher.
Several analysts had expected the company to sell 250,000 to 350,000 units on the opening weekend.
The big question is whether brisk sales are sustainable, or whether last weekend's crowds consisted primarily of hardcore Apple fans and early adopters.
At the moment, Wall Street analysts expect iPad sales to reach about 5 million units in the first 12 months.
At least four brokerages raised their share-price targets and full-year earnings estimates for Apple following the debut of the highly anticipated mobile touchscreen computer that lets users watch video, read newspapers and search the Web.
For the weekend, Kaufman Brothers analyst Shaw Wu expected sales of 250,000 to 300,000 units. Barclays Capital analyst Ben Reitzes estimated that Apple sold about 400,000 iPads.
Companies found to have supplied some of the key components to the iPad received a boost in trade on Monday [ID:nN03146377].
Those include Samsung Electronics, up 1.5 percent, LG Display, up 2.2 percent, Broadcom Corp up 2.0 percent, and Texas Instruments Inc, up 1.1 percent.
JPMorgan analyst Mark Moskowitz said critical mass depended on future product generations overcoming current limitations.
"In the interim ... Apple faithful and the early adopters should help the iPad beat subdued investor expectations," he said in a note to clients.
Susquehanna Financial analyst Jeffrey Fidacaro, who expects a smaller second wave of demand in late April for the 3G version, said the iPad was likely to take share from Amazon.com Inc's Kindle because of its robust e-reader capabilities.
Apple has plenty riding on the iPad, which it unveiled in January and calls a new category of machine: a lightweight media consumption device that tries to fuse the best attributes of a smartphone and a laptop.
JPMorgan raised its price target on Apple stock to $305 from $240; Kaufman Brothers increased it to $295 from $253; and Thomas Weisel Partners lifted its price target to $280 from $270. Susquehanna raised its price target to $275 from $260, while Barclays kept its unchanged at $285.
Shares of Apple were down less than 0.1 percent at $235.78 in morning trading.
Apple added that iPad users had downloaded more than 1 million applications from the company's App Store and more than 250,000 ebooks from its iBookstore during the first day.

The iPad -- it's not just for humans any more
People who work at Miami's Jungle Island zoo have figured out a hi-tech way to communicate with orangutans. Rather than using old-fashioned sign language, they're using iPads.
According to the Associated Press, trainers are working specifically with 8-year-old twin orangutans helping them draw, play games, and work on new vocabulary as part of a mental stimulus program.
"Our young ones pick up on it. They understand it. It's like, `Oh I get this,'" Linda Jacobs, who oversees the program, told the Associated Press. "Our two older ones, they just are not interested. I think they just figure, `I've gotten along just fine in this world without this communication-skill here and the iPad, and I don't need a computer.'"
The iPad software that Jacobs is using with the apes was initially made for people with autism. Last year, there were reports that autistic children were able to use the tablet for gaming and making puzzles and also for communicating ideas to family members who were unable to understand the children's needs.
The software installed on the iPads shows pictures of objects that the trainer identifies and then allows for the orangutans to touch a corresponding button. This type of technology could eventually lead to the general public being able to "talk" to the apes (who don't have voice boxes or vocal cords).
Despite the advances made using iPads with orangutans, there are some limitations. Since the devices are delicate and the screens are small (for ape hands), trainers have to hold the tablets. Jacobs is hoping to get more durable and large "orangutan-proof screens" in the future so the public could correspond with the apes.
"It's really just a matter of getting the technology and equipment here," Jacobs told the Associated Press. "There's not a doubt in my mind that they could do it and would be marvelous at it, and I think the public would absolutely love it."

Is an iPad mini coming soon?
Apple's long-rumored 7-inch iPad might be more than just a rumor, according to Barclays analyst Ben Reitzes.
Discussing the iPad in a research note yesterday, Reitzes said the investment firm is still holding out hope that Apple will add a 7-inch tablet to its lineup.
"Our global research team still sees some evidence of this product in the supply chain--and we wouldn't be surprised if it wound up in the iPod touch category if it indeed sees daylight," the analyst said. He did not provide any further details in the research note.
Given some uncertainty on the part of Barclays, an iPad mini doesn't factor into its sales forecasts for the tablet. But either way, Apple is on track to have more bang-up quarters thanks to its current iPad lineup.
Reitzes estimates that 14.2 million iPads will ship in the second quarter, a 20 percent jump over last quarter. And another 15.9 million will ship in the third quarter.
Apple will be counting on strong sales from the iPad over the next couple of quarters as the company transitions to a new iPhone, according to the analyst.
Last year, iPhone sales fell to 17 million in the quarter ended in September from 20 million the previous quarter. Potential buyers held off purchases in anticipation of the new iPhone, which made its debut in October. Several reports have pegged this October as the launch month for the next-generation iPhone.
The iPad will also continue to cannibalize PC sales, Reitzes added. As such, he sees little need for Apple to create a "hybrid" Mac with a detachable screen, believing that iPad users will increasingly dock their iPads to keyboards.
Looking at the market among tablet makers, Apple stayed on top in the first quarter with a 68 percent share. Samsung took back the No. 2 spot, while Amazon dropped to No. 3 as Kindle Fire sales dropped. The analyst expects Apple to hang on to its top market share over the near term as the Android tablet landscape becomes even more fragmented.
Apple is also expected to do well with this year's new lineup of MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs.
More rival ultrabooks will launch this year, but Apple should be able to retain its grip on the market with new Airs and a new OS.
"We are very upbeat about the prospects for new MacBook Pros and iMacs to be launched this June quarter--and even more optimistic about a new line of MacBook Airs to likely ship in the September quarter at more attractive price points," Reitzes said. "With new software (OS X Mountain Lion) and new Airs, we believe that Apple will effectively counter any perceived 'threat' from Ultrabooks."
