Samsung Galaxy Note 2 vs iPhone 5: September release date almost confirmed
Apple’s iPhone 5 release date on September 21st tipped by Verizon vacation blackout. Meanwhile, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2 reportedly arriving by mid-September.
September, the month of high-end phones?
The long-rumored Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is set to go on sale by mid September, according to a slew of new reports posted online. Apparently, Samsung has posted a YouTube video this week to confirm that the August 29 pre-IFA event is for the new Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Though the new video does not mention the Galaxy Note 2, it briefly shows the unannounced device’s S Pen whilst bragging about its portability and weight.
If rumors are to be believed, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will sport a larger 5.5-inch display with “Retina-like” pixel density. It will also include a quad-core Exynos 4 processor and a dual-core processor for the United States smartphone market. Similar to the Samsung Galaxy S3, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will also include an 8-megapixel back-facing camera and a front-facing 1.9-megapixel “HD” camera. A new design and a “better build quality” are also widely expected.
The 38-second video was uploaded by Samsung Mobile mainly to compete with Apple in the “rumors” department as more reports confirm that Apple’s iPhone 5 will arrive on September 21 and Apple will reportedly announce the device by mid-September.
It is plausible that Samsung will launch the Galaxy Note 2 before the release date of the iPhone 5 to avoid the so-called “Apple rush” which includes long-lines and blockbuster pre-orders and a pile of backorders.
Speaking of the iPhone 5 release date, Verizon Wireless reportedly blocked all vacation days of employees next month, ahead of the September 21 “massive” launch date.
According to Apple Insider, vacation dates of Verizon Wireless employees have been blocked starting from September 21 to Sept. 30 which is possibly the first week of the iPhone 5 in the lucrative smartphone market.
The iPhone 5, reportedly with Long Term Evolution, will allow Verizon Wireless to generate more revenue from customers who are willing to pay more for faster LTE network.
Meanwhile, a new rumor posted by hit and miss site Digitimes, component shortages will affect the sales of the iPhone 5 for the next few months and it will likely to slide below 15 million units, down from the original 20 million iPhone 5 forecasted by the Cupertino-based company. Grain of salt.
The site added that the supply shortage is “due to low yield rates in the production of in-cell touch panels as well as a connector at the bottom of the phone” citing its sources from supply chain.
Apart from the new iPhone, other rumors also added that Apple’s September launch date will include a new iPad, a smaller version of the tablet computer called “iPad Mini.” Possibly larger than the Samsung Galaxy Note 2′s 5.5-inch display, the iPad Mini will not only target the possible buyers of the new Galaxy Note, but also the consumers targeted by retail giant Amazon and its Kindle Fire 2.
