Samsung Galaxy S3 ROOTED Ahead of Release!
Looking to pre-order or buy the Samsung Galaxy S3 this month? Just hold on! Samsung Galaxy S3 has already been rooted 10 days ahead of the launch date. The stock build of the phone was leaked to a popular developer known as Chainfire, who managed to successfully root the kernel. The phone has not been launched yet, therefore, Chainfire had to root the leaked build virtually.
The developer has not yet made the kernel public yet as it might be traceable to the leaker, and as he claims that it is still “insecure”. The leak Chainfire worked on is the last traceable firmware revision. As always, Samsung makes its devices easily root-able and it was just a matter of repacking the stock kernel with a modified adbd binary.
Samsung is also using the standard boot.img format this time, instead of zImage format used in its previous Galaxy phones. boot.img format is easy to hack, and the modification of the kernel was trivial for the developer. The stock Galaxy S3 build also comes with a recovery partition, allowing you to easily flash recoveries/backups from the kernel.Samsung Galaxy S3 features Android ICS, 4.8-inch SUPER AMOLED touchscreen with HD(720p) display, a quad-core 1.4Ghz Exynos processor. The phone does not shy off in terms of memory and storage. It has 1GB RAM and plenty of storage space, available in 16GB/32GB/64GB variants which can be further expanded by the 64GB microSD slot. It has a 1.9MP front-facing camera and an 8MP rear-camera, both featuring HD recording capabilites. The phone’s bootloader might probably be locked as the kernel’s download mode on the phone showed a custom kernel flash counter. The developer has also not yet released the ROOT’d firmware as it is still a release candidate and the final product might have a newer firmware with a few modifications.
