New iPhone 5: Release date aside, it's all about the screen
Rumors about the new iPhone 5 and an October release date make up only part of the mania surrounding Apple's upcoming smart phone. However, buyers are focusing more on the screen-buzz ahead of a launch. With talk of a Retina display and an iOS 6 build underway, consumers are going bonkers.
Finally, the makers of the popular handheld listened to cries from the public, and it seems that "bigger is better."
According to a report from CNET on Saturday, Apple is moving ahead in making the next generation phone with a larger display screen. The iPhone 4/4S both have 3.5 inch screens.
However, the new phone 5 (rumored to be in this photo) boasts a 640-by-1,136-pixel display (iPhone 4/4S are only 640-by-960 by comparison).
The new 4-inch screen will have an additional line of icons occupying the taller real estate as part of the iOS 5 upgrade. In the past, the display had a lot of unused "non-functional" space. However, this was likely done to leave room for future upgrades with all future iPhones.
This simply means that any videos with 16:9 format can now play on the device with its "native aspect ratio," says9to5Mac.
"It was the last project that Steve Jobs was intimately involved with from concept to final design. For that reason...this product will establish the high-water mark for iPhone volumes," said Ashok Kumar, financial analyst.
Other than the taller screen, Apple's next mobile phone will feature 1GB of RAM (same as the iPad) and an A5 processor.
Brace yourself for more rapid-fire rumors swirling around the new iPhone 5 as the release date nears.
