Samsung Galaxy S3: New Devices Could Give Smartphone a Run for Its Money
Soon after the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S3, a number of smartphones were announced by tech titans including LG, HTC and Sony. All the smartphones are equipped with features more or less similar to the Samsung Galaxy S3 and considering the features the new smartphones could give a tough competition to the Samsung phone.
The year's most anticipated smartphone Samsung Galaxy S3 was announced on 3 May in London and rolled out to the UK market and eight other countries on 30 May. Samsung's flagship smartphone features a 4.8in Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The smartphone offers more storage options at 16GB and 32GB while a 64GB version is expected soon. It packs an eight megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.9 meapixel front-facing camera. The smartphone runs on the updated version of Android operating system (OS), 4.0.4. The Galaxy S3 is powered by Exynos 4 quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz and packs 1GB of RAM. The smartphone offers Near Field Communication (NFC) and connects to 4G network speed. It runs on a powerful battery of 2100mAh.
Sony Mobile Communication announced some of its Xperia series smartphones following the announcement of Galaxy S3. On 9 May Sony Xperia GX and Xperia SX were unveiled in London. The company has not mentioned anything on the UK availability but it promises that the smartphones will be available in the Japanese market from the summer of 2012. The Xperia SX, according to claims made by Sony, is the world's lightest LTE smartphone weighing only 95g. But as far as features are concerned, the Xperia GX sits atop the Xperia SX. The Xperia GX packs a high resolution camera compared to the Galaxy S3 at 13 megapixel. The handset features a 4.6in LCD display with resolution similar to the Galaxy S3. It runs on theAndroid 4.0 OS and is powered by a Li-ion 1700mAh battery. The Xperia GX offers storage option of 16GB and supports microSD card slot with an additional space up to 32GB. The device is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz; this is the same processor which Samsung will be using for the US variants of Galaxy S3; and the RAM is 1GB.
In the same month (on 30 May) once again Sony announced two new durable and water-resistant smartphones - Xperia Go and Xperia Acro S. In terms of specifications, the Xperia Acro S dominates Xperia Go. The Xperia Acro S features a 4.3in LCD display with similar resolution as Galaxy S3. The most striking feature of the Xperia Acro S is its high resolution camera which is of 12 megapixel. Besides, the smartphone runs on Android 4.0 OS and is powered by a Li-ion 1910mAh battery. The Acro S is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon S3 dual-core processor and has a similar storage capacity as the Xperia GX.
On 17 May, LG announced the LG Optimus LTE2 which, like the Galaxy S3, supports 4G connectivity, NFC and packs a similar resolution camera like S3 and even the processor. Notable features of the smartphone are its powerful battery which is of 2150mAh and the RAM which is of 2GB.
One of Samsung's biggest market rival HTC announced the Droid Incredible 4G LTE on 7 May. The Verizon-bound HTC smartphone has a few similar features like the Galaxy S3 which include 4G connectivity, NFC, 8MP main camera, 1GB of RAM, microSD card slot and even the same processor-Snapdragon S4 dual-core-but its clock speed is less at 1.2GHz.
