Samsung Galaxy S3 vs iPhone 5: Apple phone to best Galaxy S3
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs forthcoming iPhone 5 comparison will not end till next generation Apple phone is launched in the market
The next generation Apple iPhone is reported to be thinner and lighter than the current one, and will boast a new touchscreen display that promises to bring down costs for Apple as well as make the display sharper.
The report appeared in the Wall Street Journal states that iPhone 5 would be using a new technology that integrates touch into the LCD, making an extra touch-screen layer redundant. This would make the phone thinner than Samsung’s Galaxy S III.
Being thinner, lighter and smarter is a big thing currently for Apple and Samsung as both the companies are neck to neck when it comes to market competition and customer satisfaction. The companies use different technologies but Samsung has already bettered Apple’s slim iPhone 4S by its super slim, light-weight Samsung Galaxy S III that also boasts a bigger screen. While the current iPhone 4S statistics stand at 9.3mm and 140 grams, Samsung bettered it this May with the new Galaxy S III smartphone that boasts a tremendous 4.8-inch display (compare iPhone’s 3.5-inch) 8.6mm and 133 grams.
Now with the new display technology, it is Apple’s turn to throw the dice and show one up on Samsung.
The Wall Street Journal reported, “Japanese liquid-crystal display makers Sharp Corp. and Japan Display—a new company that combined three Japanese electronics makers’ display units—as well as South Korea’s LG Display Co. are currently mass producing panels for the next iPhone using so-called in-cell technology.”
The report also mentioned that the display technology “integrates touch sensors into the LCD, making it unnecessary to have a separate touch-screen layer.”
The lack of an extra touch-screen renders the width of the phone thinner by half a millimeter, and improves the quality of the images displayed. That Apple would be saving costs by not having to go to separate vendors for separate touch screen and LCD screens is an internal matter for the company and will not affect the consumers, but it is a bonus point nonetheless.
Samsung has already reached this point as it uses a organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display instead of the LCD and touchscreen pair used on iPhone 4S. Therefore, its phones boast bigger display but are startlingly light and thin. OLED displays tend to be thinner than traditional LCD displays, the Wall Street Journal says.
The only hurdle now for Apple is to get the iPhone 5 out in time. It is a challenge for the companies manufacturing the screens because the new technology screens are hard to manufacture and the concerned firms are currently scrambling to fulfill Apple’s orders.
It was stated in The Wall Street Journal report, “People familiar with the situation said that LCD makers are finding the manufacturing process challenging and time-consuming as they scramble to achieve high yield rates.”
Among other supposed features of iPhone 5 are the use of “liquid metal components.”
This was reported in AppleInsider. It stated, “The iPhone 5 is likely to take liquid metal, an alloy of zirconium, titanium, nickel, copper and so forth, having an outer surface smooth like liquid.”
