Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Note 2: Don't Mess With The Phablets
Samsung is doing very well with their Galaxy range of phones. One of the reasons for this is the diversity that they bring into the market with the entry level series of Mini devices to the Galaxy Ace which falls in the middle and the top of the range handsets such as the Galaxy S family and the Nexus. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is one of the most popular of their handsets and the Note too. And now with the Note 2 on its way how would it match up to the current favorite the Samsung Galaxy S3?
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Note 2
The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED screen that has 1280 x 720 pixels with the ppi being 306. Rumors have it that the Note 2 will have a 5.5 inch AMOLED display but the resolution of it is unknown at the moment. Of course the original Note has a resolution of 1280 x 800 with 285ppi and it is assumed that the screen on the Note 2 would be better. Maybe 1600 x 900 resolution would be good, with around 333ppi. In short there probably won’t be much of a change in the quality such as in brightness, contrast and viewing angles between the two devices. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is easier to hold in one hand and the Note 2 will be great for watching movies thanks to its larger screen. However do keep in mind that at 4.8-inches, the Galaxy S3 isn't exactly small and any may find it as difficult to operate single-handedly.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 recently leaked in benchmark tests as the GT-N7100 and showed it shares the same "engine" as the S3 but is clocked at a higher speed, hence faster. So in terms of performance, it may actually beat the S3.
More than likely the Note 2 will be the same price as the Samsung Galaxy S3 at launch, but then the cost of the S3 should start dropping as it will have been out for 4 to 5 months, so there may be plenty of deals around. It is thought that the Note 2 will be revealed in September of October but the recent announced August 15 Samsung Galaxy event could also be for the Note 2..
The Samsung Galaxy S3 has ICS Android 4.0 installed and owners are waiting for the upgrade to 4.1 which should surface by the end of the year. It is thought that the Note 2 will have Jelly Bean pre- installed when it is released, another advantage.
All in all the Note 2 will probably be a slightly larger, slightly faster version of the S3 with a stylus and Jelly Bean available quickly. The specifications are also thought to be very similar. Therefore the best phone would all depend on what you want out of a phone and how large your hands are. If you have large hands you may feel better holding the Note 2 than someone with smaller hands, as it is large. For watching movies on the larger screen of the Note 2 will win people over but it may be a struggle to get it into the pocket or out of a small handbag.
Size aside though, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 may end up offering more than the S3 ever could making it one deadly phablet. Whether it will be enough to take on the iPhone 5 which lands around the same time, remains to be seen.
