iPhone 5 update: Samsung Galaxy S3 poses no threat to the iPhone 5 release date
Traditionally, new iPhone models arereleased in the fall, as was the case with the launch of the iPhone 4S in October last year. The new iPhone is "born" in October, the fans thought after that - at least so far. Know Your Mobile claims to have learned that strong competition from the Galaxy S3 has forced Apple to change its practice. They say, "iPhone 5 will be launched via a keynote speech on August 7."
Does the Samsung Galaxy S3 threaten iPhone 5 sales?
There is speculation that the continuing sales success of the Samsung GalaxyS3 is creating a frenzy of activity in Cupertino, this appears realistic given the bitter patent disputebetween the two companies. Looking at the sales figures show, however, a different picture. Apple sold 35 million iPhones in the quarter.
Analysts at JP Morgan put Galaxy S3 sales at 6.5 million copies sold in Q2, and the next quarter will be 15 million. This information appears to be no real threat to Apple's upcoming iPhone 5 sales.
Piper Jaffray believes that information from a survey of mobile phone owners, determines that Apple will sell for sure at least 80 million copies. Especially, since the manufacturers can count on their loyal fan base.
A recent survey says once an iPhone is bought, almost 95 percent have an iPhone again. With an iPhone keynote speech in August, Apple could bring the attention to itself and away from Windows Phone 8, which is expected in October. This in turn, would put anxious iPhone fans on "ice."
In the Foxconn factory in Chengdu, it's been a big demand for new workers who want to work over the summer at the factory. A release date of the iPhone 5 on August 7th is not impossible, but rather unlikely. The iPhone 4S was released only a few weeks after it's presentation, and was available in October 2011. However, if the release is set for the fourth quarter of 2012, Apple would be well on schedule. Be sure to subscribe to stay informed on the latest iPhone 5 news.
