iPhone 5, Amazon phone and Galaxy Note 2: Release date watch
Amazon is said to compete with the iPhone and Android, but analysts agree that the iPhone 5 will still bag the “most popular” title, whilst the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 might show impressive specs and build quality.
This quarter, once again, there’s word that retail giant Amazon is crafting its own Android smartphone mainly to sell more content like movies, TV shows, music and Android apps.
According to Wired News, ad-based Kindle Phone might work because it will allow Amazon to significantly shoulder the price of the phone’s data plan. Crazy, but highly possible knowing that Amazon and AT&T offer e-readers with free unlimited data with ads. The question now is — can AT&T’s 3G network handle the load?
As reported by top-end news sites like Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal, the unannounced smartphone is headed to the market and possible launch date is by the end of this year. If accurate, then it is safe to say that the Amazon phone will join the lucrative market after the launch of the unannounced iPhone 5 of Apple, and the rumored Samsung Galaxy Note 2 of Samsung.
Speaking of the Galaxy Note 2, rumors this week reveal that the unannounced Galaxy Note 2 is headed to IFA next month, and a benchmark score posted online confirmed that it will ship with a quad-core processor similar to the Galaxy S3 Android handset, and will likely include an HD Pentile display and Android Ice Cream Sandwich, the older version of Android. If Amazon will sell a cheap smartphone and iPhone 5 will re-grab its own market share, where does the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 fit in the world of smartphones knowing that the Galaxy S3 is still selling like hotcakes?
Apart from the Samsung Galaxy S3, the rumored Kindle Phone and the iPhone 5, another device worth mentioning that might affect sales of the Galaxy Note 2 is the Google Nexus 7 tablet, the 7-inch WiFi only tablet which runs the latest version of Android, the 4.1 Jelly Bean. The tablet is now sold out in many US-based retail stores mainly due to its affordable tag price of $199.99. Knowing Samsung and its high-end offerings, the Galaxy Note 2 might sport a $199 to $249.99 price tag on contract, whilst the unlocked model might reach the $800 price tag similar to last year’s Galaxy Note with dual-core processor.
Meanwhile, Apple’s iPhone 5, reportedly arriving by the end of October, is now affecting the sales of older iPhones including the months-old iPhone 4S mainly due to customers waiting for Apple to announce their next iPhone before shelling out.
The latest channel checks by analysts reveal that more Android phones were activated for the June quarter compared to iPhones. Samsung reportedly lured more customers than other Android phone manufacturers like HTC, Motorola Mobility, LG, etc. Samsung’s new phone, the Samsung Galaxy S3, is reportedly the most popular smartphone of Verizon Wireless and AT&T. According to Raymond James’ Tavis Mccourt, as reported byBarron’s, the Samsung Galaxy S3 benefitted from its Long Term Evolution or LTE advantage over the iPhone, plus, customers who are waiting for the iPhone 5 to come out.
