Samsung promises to fix Galaxy S3 search issue
Samsung will fix a mistake which saw the search function on the Galaxy S3 removed.
The smartphone maker sent a software update to Galaxy S3 owners which accidentally deleted a search interface. Samsung has promised that an update will reinstate the feature to full functionality. See also: Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Apple iPhone 5 comparison review.
It was originally thought that Samsung had disabled the search on the basis that Apple claimed it infringed one of its US patents.
Samsung said: "The most recent software upgrade for the Galaxy S3 in the UK included the inadvertent removal of the universal search function. Samsung will provide the correct software upgrade within the next few days."
Users who downloaded and updated their handsets were not warned that it would remove the advanced search function.
Samsung only meant to prevent some US devices from being able to use the Google-powered search to show information sourced from the phone's memory in the results, according to the BBC.
