Top Features iPhone 5 Need to Beat Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2
Samsung finally overtook Apple in terms of mobile phone sales and market share with the release of its 2012 flagship phone - Galaxy S3. This could be a big threat to the latter company if Samsung can widen the gap with imminent release of Galaxy Note 2.
Apple used to be on top of the world with its highly-acclaimed iOS devices. However, the two tech companies are now neck to neck and competition is more intense.
In the recent report of research and analysis firm IDC, Samsung sold a total of 50.2 million units and reached a new quarterly smartphone shipment record in a single quarter. What remains to be seen is how the company's smartphones will fare against Apple's next-generation iPhone expected later this year
"Samsung and Apple have quickly become the global smartphone heavyweights though both employ somewhat different approaches to the market," said Kevin Restivo, senior research analyst with IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker.
"Samsung employs a 'shotgun' strategy wherein many models are created that cover a wide range of market segments. Apple, in contrast, offers a small number of high-profile models. While both companies have expanded their geographic presence in pursuit of market share, the two companies will inevitably come into greater conflict as both try to generate additional gains," Restivo quickly added.
Below are some of features that iPhone 5 must include in its handset in order to beat Samsung's big guns, including Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2.
Color Design - Since the release of the first iPhone, Apple sticks to its business-like and minimalist design. This proved to be attractive to professionals and business persons. However, younger generation still prefers colors other from the staple black and white hues of smartphones.
This proved to be an advantage to Samsung which first used candy colors in its Samsung Galaxy Y. In the new Galaxy S3, Pebble Blue and Marble White are hot colors of the flagship phone that are selling like hotcakes.
Apple needs to improve the design of its new smartphone in order to widen its market. Younger and hip generation would prefer hot colors.
Screen Display - There is a rumor that iPhone 5 will have a larger screen display finally abandoning its 3.5 inch screen. However, the rumored 5.5-inch screen of the Galaxy Note 2 will dwarf Apple's display. Samsung Galaxy S3, on the other hand, sported 4.8-inch screen.
Bigger is not always the better. However, Samsung Galaxy S3's bigger screen is perfect for movie lovers who would like to watch flicks in their smartphones.
Camera - iPhone 4S's 8 megapixel camera is pretty good. However, Samsung is rumored to be packing a 12 MP shooter on the upcoming Galaxy Note 2. How will Apple top that? It is like bringing a DSLR in your smartphone.
Connectivity - Samsung Galaxy S3 is already equipped with 4G/LTE capability. iPhone 5 is speculated to be having this same feature. When iPad 3 was released earlier this year, it had problems when its advertised that 4G/LTE connection as one of its main features but found out that it was incompatible in the 4G network in some countries like Australia.
Processor - Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is rumored to be equipped with 1.6 GHz quad core Exynos processor, which is faster than 1.4 GHz Exynos processor of the Galaxy S3. Apple's A6 chip has to be faster than this in order to move ahead in the competition.
We just have to wait for Apple's announcement for its iPhone 5 to see if it will be able to close the wide gap that Samsung has created in the recent quarter.
