With each passing week, the iPhone 5 release date chatter gets more lively, honing in what features will be part of aniPhone 5 release. This week was no let down as we heard talk about the iWallet that builds on the NFC Airdrop feature, doubled down on the quad-core processor and added an iPad Mini to boot. It's supposed to launch with the iPhone 5 release date and could make for an interesting holiday shopping season for both mobile phone and tablet buyers. iPhone 5 Release Date Some of the biggest news for the iPhone 5 release date this week was further proof on the quad-core processor rumors ... namely from Digitimes. The site usually has a fairly good track record and said this week that "Apple is also expected to release its next-generation iPhone built on Samsung's Exynos 4 quad-core processor in the second half, heating up competition in the segment." Everything about an iPhone 5 release date seems contingent on not just the iPhone 5 but a number of phones and tablets moving forward this year, whether it's the wild talk of an Amazon phone or a Facebook phone, while Samsung's Galaxy S3 has already been released. iPhone 5 Rumors Then again there's the usual glut of our favorite iPhone 5 rumors: a bigger 4.0-inch screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio, The smaller dock connector confirmed by CNET, but there's also the new iWallet, which is expected to be part of an iPhone 5 release. This whole notion of the mobile phone being used as the new cash card for people has been around for a while, and seems a likely a trend in the entire industry, not just a new iPhone. The iWallet would use the NFC or near field communication talked about last week. It allows a new iPhone 5 release to "talk to" or communicate with other NFC deviceseven without a Wi-Fi connection. It's part of a larger iPhone 5 feature sometimes called Airdrop, and iWallet could tap into that potential and be part of how we pay for airline and concert tickets, then show the ticket at the gate via your iPhone 5 rather than a paper ticket. Sounds very cool. Apple would of course get a cut of that transaction. There's the talk of the new iPad Mini to coincide with an iPhone 5 release date, which is a total toss up in my opinion, it's very possible. I've heard all of the reasons why it "won't work" or why "Steve Jobs said no" or "cannibalizing sales" but I don't believe any of them. Everybody seems to be forgetting that the same thing was said about the iPod, and we ended up with a whole variety of those, but THEY didn't cannibalize iPod sales, they just got bigger. Same thing with the iPhone, with different storage sizes. As a matter of fact, the only reason we're talking about Apple today is because the iPod and its multiple versions. Andy Hargeaves from Pacific Crest had some thoughts on this, and Bloomberg also dropped the bomb on theiPad Mini: “7-inch tablets are tweeners: too big to compete with a smartphone and too small to compete with the iPad… these are among the reasons that the current crop of 7-inch tablets are going to be DOA– dead on arrival,” Steve Jobs once said about the idea. Although everybody ran the blurb in this week's coverage as proof why Apple would never do an iPad Mini, it overlooks the operative words: "current crop." He never said that Apple would never create an iPad Mini, but everyone seems to want to interpret it this way. Fuggedaboutit. Steve Jobs was always known for saying one thing, only to change his mind to another thing later on.
