IPHONE 5 VS. SAMSUNG GALAXY S3: APPLE FACES BIGGER CHALLENGE
Samsung Galaxy S3, the “iPhone killer” hopeful, has already landed the United States last month. Expected to have been released by about 300 carriers in 150 counties by the end of July, the highly reviewed smartphone is hoping to sell to 10 million users by then.
On the other hand, Apple’s next iPhone, commonly referred to as iPhone 5, is still an undercover handset that causes tons of speculations in the Internet. The Cupertino-based company has not revealed an official release date for the next generation of smartphone, though rumors suggest that an earlier release in August, 10 months after the release of iPhone 4S, is highly probable due to growing challenge from Samsung Galaxy S3.
While spec is not the only standard to determine the better of the two, Galaxy S3 seems to have an advantage over the rumored iPhone 5 in terms of hardware configurations.
Samsung has its flagship Android phone equipped different processors and storage capacity in different counties or carriers. In the United States, the device comes with a 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Krait processor and 16GB and 32GB two storage versions.
iPhone 5 is most likely to have an A6 quad core processor which is also 1.5 GHz, teamed with Apple’s iOS 6 operating system. It will also be the first iPhone with 4G LTE, if rumors hold true.
Although iPhone 5 that is rumored to have an increased screen size of 4-inch with Retina display, Galaxy S3 boasts a huge 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLD screen. To those who prefer larger screen, Galaxy S3 has an obvious advantage. While iPhone’s Retina display will have a pixel density of 367 ppi, which is better than Galaxy S3’s 310 ppi, Samsung managed to make the phone bigger yet thinner than the iPhone 4S.
Many analysts believe Samsung will sell even more Galaxy S3 in the third quarter of 2012. Apple will face vigorous challenge when it launches the new iPhone and compete directly with Galaxy S3.
