iPhone 5 News: Release Date Remain Unconfirmed; New Micro MagSafe Rumors Surface
A few days ago, rumors regarding Apple abandoning the dock connector on the next iPhone were confirmed. However, speculation from numerous sources stated that in its place, Apple would be switching to a "19-pin" or Micro USB port on the iPhone 5.
However, new speculation and rumors from ZDNet state that Apple won't use the 19-pin port but instead use a Micro MagSafe, which will have a chip in both ends of the new power supply that will check whether the accessories are genuine or not. It the rumors hold true, that will mean that iPhone 5 owners will only be able to utilize Apple licensed accessories to charge the phone. This will also likely see higher prices from Apple to purchase its exclusive accessories. ZDNet also states that new connector would be similar to that currently used on the Apple Macbook Pro and Air laptops.
Another rumor that has been confirmed by Reuters and the Wall Street Journal reveals that Apple will in fact turn to a four inch screen for its upcoming smartphone. The move is likely to compete with the impressive displays from its competitors. The newly released Samsung Galaxy S3 currently has a 4.8 inch screen, making it impossible for Apple to do anything smaller.
Rumors are still running rampant on the web over the phone's release date and new features.
A video was put on Youtube by ETrade portraying what many believe to be the back cover of the iPhone 5. As for the release date, most have it penciled in for September and October. However, there has been no confirmation and the anticipation and hype has only escalated.
Foxconn CEO Terry Gou recently stated that the phone will put the new Samsung Galaxy S3 to "shame."
